Educational Background

In 2001, Dr. Rajeshvar Sharda graduated summa cum laude from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, where he studied biochemistry and molecular biology. He then pursued a doctor of medicine from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. While at medical school, he was elected president of his class and speaker of the student government.

In 2005, he fulfilled a research fellowship at the University of Toronto’s department of ophthalmology and vision sciences. Later, he returned to McMaster University, where he completed a residency in ophthalmology, earning his fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 2011.

Today, Dr. Sharda remains a prominent figure in Hamilton’s medical community: he is an adjunct assistant clinical professor at McMaster University where he oversees medical students and ophthalmologists-in-training. Furthermore, he delivers regular lectures and surgical training sessions to ophthalmologists-in-training. Dr. Sharda’s research has been published in reputable medical journals, and he has presented his findings at many conferences and symposiums.

Refractive Experience

In 2013, he teamed up with the Haldimand War Memorial Hospital in Dunnville, Ontario, to develop a refractive cataract surgery program designed to make such procedures more accessible to the community at large, as they often require a significant wait time. In addition to providing high-quality care to his patients at both the Sharda Eye Institute and LASIK MD, Dr. Sharda has specialized in laser refractive surgery under the training and supervision of Drs. Mark Cohen and Avi Wallerstein, considered to be two of North America’s most experienced laser refractive surgeons.

Accomplishments and Awards

In 2004, he won the Resident Research Day Award from the department of ophthalmology’s Annual Research Day at Queen’s University. Later that year, he obtained the highest academic standing in a research project, earning him the Barsky Prize in Ophthalmology at Queen’s. He was also named the Top Resident in Ophthalmology from the Hamilton Academy of Medicine. In both 2014 and 2015, Dr. Sharda was nominated the Best Ophthalmology, courtesy of the Hamilton Spectator Platinum Readers Choice Award. This honour is voted by readers and is awarded annually.
