EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

Dr. Kristine Mayer graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Medicine, then completed a residency in family practice at Dalhousie University and a subsequent residency in ophthalmology at the University of Cincinnati. She then went on to undertake a fellowship in comprehensive ophthalmology at McGill University.

REFRACTIVE EXPERIENCE

Dr. Mayer has been regularly seeing patients in Nova Scotia for over 17 years. Additionally, she is the Cape Breton District Health Authority’s division chief, and previously held the positions of vice-chair and section chair for the Nova Scotia Section of Ophthalmology.

Since 2014, Dr. Mayer has also been an assistant professor with Dalhousie University’s Medical School.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND AWARDS

Dr. Mayer’s work has appeared both in print (Eye, The Ocular Surface, Community Eye Health) and in presentations given for events put on by the World Health Organization and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. Additionally, Dr. Mayer has extensive volunteer experience, bringing her talents to various parts of the world including Ghana, Guatemala, Paraguay, India, and the Dominican Republic. She has also volunteered in Haiti and taught ophthalmology residents in the country.
