Standard PRK

With Standard PRK, the laser eye surgeon starts by gently polishing off the surface layer of the cornea. Then the surgeon uses an advanced excimer laser to reshape the cornea by removing a pre-determined amount of corneal tissue. The amount of tissue to be removed is determined during the pre-operative assessment.

Following the Standard PRK procedure, the surgeon will place contact lenses over the reshaped cornea. The contact lenses are simply used for protection. These are to be worn until the surface layer of the cornea grows back-which usually takes three to five days.
